Dr Praful Patel is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Endoscopy Specialist, appointed to Southampton University Hospitals Trust in 1997.

In addition, Dr Patel holds private outpatient clinics, performs endoscopy procedures and cares for inpatients at both the Spire Southampton Hospital and the Nuffield Health Wessex Hospital in Chandlers Ford.

He is Director of the Hampshire Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP), Regional Quality Assurance Lead for Colonoscopy, Director of the Endoscopy Training Centre for Southampton University Hospitals Trust and Lead Clinician for Barrett's Oesophagus Patient Charitable Group in Wessex.

About Dr Praful Patel

Dr Praful Patel graduated from Manchester Medical School in 1987, and conducted research for his MD at St George's Hospital, London, from 1992 to 1995. Since his appointment as Consultant in 1997, he has led many developments, particularly in the field of endoscopy and trained many local gastroenterologists. He has an active research programme and has published many articles over 20 years.

Dr Patel will see patients with GI disorders covering the gullet, stomach, small and large bowel, pancreas and bile ducts. If you are experiencing any abdominal symptoms (see GI Disorders), Dr. Patel has the expertise to reach a diagnosis, and recommend appropriate treatment. As part of this process he will work with other gastroenterologists, surgeons, oncologists, pathologists and dietitians to ensure you receive the best integrated care to achieve the optimum outcome. Our Patient Survey rated a range of measures including speed of tests, clarity of information, quality of treatment, approachability, which were rated as excellent by 85%, and good by 15% of patients.
